BIO
Contemporary artist since 2013, Patricia Borges was born in Brazil in 1974. In 1990 she started her drawing and painting classes with master Luiz Carlos Andrade Lima.
In 1995 she moved to Vienna, Austria, where she first studied analogue photography and classical painting. Back to Brazil she engaged at art history and art theory courses with professors Fernando Carneiro and Maria Cecilia Araujo de Noronha.
After graduating in Architecture and Urban Planning in 1999 from PUC University, she worked on construction projects as an architect. For ten years she held her own architectural practice Modus Arquitetura.
Her post-graduate studies were in Applied Arts / Photography from 2002 to 2004 at the ACP - Australian Centre for Photography in Sydney.
While in Australia and back in Brazil, she worked as a photographer documenting theater performances and architectural projects for professional portfolios, magazines, books and websites. And learned programming languages to develop web content with the images she produced.
Founding in 2004 a second company called Modus Imagens to pursuit a career as commercial photographer she produced institutional images, product stills and interior design photographs - along with fine art images for private collections.
2013
Patricia Borges first public exhibition was at the IX Florence Biennale in Italy, in 2013, where she was awarded with Lorenzo Il Magnifico - First Prize in Photography.
2014
In 2014 Patricia Borges photographic diptych “Agulhas I” - complementary to the polyptych exhibited in Florence - was displayed at X Biennale di Roma, and also won First Prize in Photography.
Those prizes motivated the development of a series of fine art projects. After living in Viena-EU, Sydney-Australia, Geneva-CH, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba and Garopaba, she moved back to Rio de Janeiro in 2014 where, intending to focus on her artistic practice, she continued her studies at EAV Parque Lage Visual Arts School.
2015
While in 2015 Patricia Borges graduated in Jewellery Design at IED - Istituto Europeo di Design - she sold PatBijoux.com website, a jewellery shop founded in 2010 for online trading of her own design as well as jewelry pieces made by other artists. By then she engaged as a volunteer photographer at the NGO Atados.
At the same year she published the photobooks Agulhas and The Cake.
As she realised the need of adding new narrative layers upon still photography and printed matter, Patricia focused on screenwriting, literature and moving image production.
2016
In 2016 Patricia Borges got a Cinematographer degree from AIC - International Academy of Cinema / RJ.
Followed by a Screenplay degree in 2017. When she wrote the surf webserie Arpex - Posto 7.
2017
Patricia Borges was nominated for Reynaldo Roels Jr 3rd Installation Art Prize at MAC Contemporary museum in Niteroi.
She took part of Snap to Grid photographic exhibition at LACDA (Los Angeles Center for Digital Art) and presented the video #happy at Escola em Transe collective exhibition at Parque Lage.
In August 2017 Patricia Borges was part of the group exhibition The Street Experience held at Galleria Millepiani in Rome where her photographic essay Liquid World was featured. These images also led to a printed artist book of the same title (two editions: English and Portuguese). The series is hosted on LensCulture projects' library.
At the same year, her photographic series La Peau was featured at Times to be Feminine publication, released at New Women Space in New York.
2018
In February 2018 her work Liquid World was part of Le Salon des Artistes Français at the Grand Palais in Paris (dossier) (critics).
In April 2018 her photographic project Bodyscapes was featured at the Canadian magazine Adore Noir. The book Cultura Brasileira Hoje was published in Rio de Janeiro with some of her images of theater plays. And she collaborated with the project Cem Peitos for the online platform Hysteria in Rio.
In May 2018 her photo-objects Wagashi and Private were displayed and sold out at Tokyo International Art Fair - Japan.
In June Patricia Borges was awarded Honorable Mention prize in Fine Arts at Prix de La Photographie Paris PX3 2018 for her series Private.
In August 2018 the artist was part of the collective exhibition Tangente at EAV - Parque Lage.
Her video Ballet 11 was selected for Venice Experimental Video Art Festival 2018 that took place at Palazzo Ca'Zanardi, at the same time of La Biennale di Cinema di Venezia. After the festival, Ballet 11 was part of 'Spaces' collective exhibition at The Room gallery until December 2018, also in Venice.
In October 2018 her works Gigante e Skin#2 were displayed at Clio Art Fair in New York City. (sold out)
2019
From January to March 2019 Patricia Borges exhibited her photo objects at MuMa museum - Museu Municipal de Arte de Curitiba - being selected by Circuito de Arte Contemporanea de Curitiba (catalogue)/ (certificate).
Finalist of 13rd Arte Laguna Prize 2018-2019 in Venice, in Photography category, her works are now part of Arte Laguna World collection.
In April 2019 her work ZEN was selected by Circle Foundation for the Arts in France to be published at Spotlight magazine.
In May 2019 Patricia Borges was awarded with an Honorable Mention prize in Street Photo at IPA Int’l Photography Awards in Los Angeles for her series Penance&Privilege. In August, the same series also won an honorable mention prize on UK Life Framer Issue 56/2019 'Civilization' photography contest, judged by 4x World Press Photo winner and member of VII Photo Agency, Stefano de Luigi. This series was also included on US SDN (Social Documentary Network) online selection.
In August 2019 her photographic essay Dead Sea was published on F-Stop magazine #96 'Consumption' issue.
On September her photographic essay To Ed Ruscha With Love won an honorable mention prize on Minimalist Photography Awards 2019 and was exhibited at Silk Road Gallery in Teheran. Patricia Borges' portfolio was published by Artness Contemporary magazine September Edition.
From August to September 2019 her work Skin#2 was part of CorpoRealities, a photography exhibition curated by Zsolt Batori at PH21 Gallery in Budapest, Hungary.
Later that year, her awarded series Penance&Privilege was part of Life Framer V Photography Prize 2019 exhibit tour, opening in London on September at Bermondsey Project Space and in Milano on October at Officine Fotografiche.
On October her photographic essay Modernist Architecture From the 60's was published at u+i magazine, featuring b&w images from Brasilia and Sydney architectural landmarks.
Her large format photographic series Guanabara were exhibited at Galerie Etienne de Causans, in Paris, on November 2019 along with Photo Saint Germain and Paris Photo. Following to the Luxembourg Art Fair in December.
In December 2019 Patricia Borges was part of Photo Israel Photography Festival in Tel Aviv, with the video Ballet11. And her book Needles was part of Volumes2019 show, at the Kunsthalle museum in Zurich.
From December 2019 to January 2020 her video Inside was shown at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh at CutLog Moving Image screenings, a SSA+VAS collaboration (The Society of Scottish Artists + Visual Arts Scotland).
In December 2019 her work has been featured at Aesthetica magazine - Issue 92. In January 2020 at ArtReveal magazine - Issue 51.
Her black and white photographic work Terra Brasilis has been selected on the first stage of HIPA Photography Award 2019 (Water) in Dubai UAE - portfolio category.
2020
In January 2020 her awarded series Private was displayed at Foremost Exhibition in Okinawa, Japan, along with other photographers who won PX3 Prix de La Photographie Paris in 2018 and 2019. (here)
Patricia Borges has been invited to be part of "Collector Book - New Perspectives” published in March 2020, edited by Contemporary Art Collectors (UK), available at Amazon.uk.
In March, the artist has been awarded with an Honorable Mention prize in photography at London International Creative Competition 2019, with her photographic book project Liquid World: Memoirs of a Goldfish.
From March to April, her photographic work was displayed on the project Postcards From Great Britain, launched in Haarlem (Netherlands). From there, the exhibition travelled to Newcastle, Amsterdam (5&33 Gallery), Ghent (Belgium), Les Alizes at St Gilles Croix de Vie (France), FujiFilm HQ in Tilburg (Netherlands) and was archived at Cambridge University Library (UK), Victoria and Albert museum (UK), DECK Library Singapore and Lightbox Photobook Library Taiwan.
In April 2020 Patricia Borges would have her photographic works displayed at ARTEXPO NY 2020, with New York Center for Photographic Art gallery. (postponed to April/2021 and then to October/2021). Her works where then included at Artland platform.
In May her new cyanotype series Solares has been published on CreativPaper Magazine #18 along with Patricia Borges’ interview. Her objects and installations have been published at Contemporary Art Curator magazine and at Create!Magazine.
In June 2020 Patricia Borges was scheduled to be part of PhotoMilano in Italy, with Galleria Tadini (postponed). Her photographic project Sutures was screened among other shortlisted artists at Copenhagen Photo Festival at The Censored Exhibition (outdoors).
In September and October she attended the seminar The Production of the Self: Conversations about Marisa Merz at Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Patricia Borges had been awarded at Moscow Foto Awards 2020 both on video and photobook categories. Selected at Urban2020 Photo Awards at portfolio category, her works were shown at Trieste Photo Days 2020 Festival in Oct/Nov. (outdoors)
From October to December she attended the course From Stone to Pixel: Images’ History with Andreas Valentin at Atelier Oriente. And her series Disappearing Act was inserted at Lens Culture archive.
In November her photographic works were part of Festival de Fotografia de Tiradentes with two projects: Corp_Urbano exhibition, and Por Dentro de um Tempo Suspenso - Recolhimento video project, both in Minas Gerais. (outdoors)
In December her works I Don't Believe in Witches , But There Are were displayed at EAV annual exhibition and at the group show Women Suffragists at San Diego Public Library, California. While the photographic series Suturas was published at Grimoire Webzine, from Tunisia.
2021
COCA project 2021 finalist (Rome) and nominee at FIABCN Art Award 2021 (Barcelona). Patricia Borges had her photographic works published on Food&Gravity magazine (Berlin) in February 2021 and was part of the book 5 Artists Interviews by Kim Engelen.
In March 2021, Patricia Borges video Deep Saffron for Roger & Brian Eno’s Mixing Colours Project together with Deutsche Grammophon, was displayed at A Quiet Scene outdoor exhibition at Los Angeles Music Center.
In April the artist had an online solo exhibition at Albe Art (Abu Dhabi). And in May she contributed with the online publication Kunstretreat 2021.(Berlin)
In June 2021 Patricia Borges completed her Specialization in Modern and Contemporary Art Studies at MoMA-NY, which she has started in January.
In July after attending Joaquim Paiva’s diaries workshop at Ateliê Oriente, Patricia Borges completed “For Each Day I Felt Your Absence” an artist book, containing her poetry and photographs (no English version yet). And launched the collective book “Meetings and Reflections with Iole de Freitas” documenting art conversations that took place during the confinement months of 2020.
In August Patricia Borges has been accepted at LASALLE College of the Arts (Nanyang University) in Singapore, for 2022 MFA Masters in Fine Arts. (postponed to 2023)
In September she was part of Paralea EIXO collective online exhibition during ArtRio fair; and had her photographic works displayed at the 6th Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography in Barcelona - being awarded four honorable mentions at 16th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards (UK 2021).
In October 2021, Patricia Borges exhibited her photographic works at ARTEXPO 2021 in Pier 36, NYC. And was published on the book Poetry with The Shutterhub team.
From October to December the artist was part of SSA Society of Scottish Artists annual exhibition with the video Revertere Ad Locum Tuum at Cutlog screenings in The Royal Scottish Academy of Edimburg. And at the same period Patricia Borges presented her installation Because I've Lived Many Lives Before at Oasis space in Rio de Janeiro, with Paralela Gallery
In November-December 2021 Patricia Borges' Akhenaton series was displayed at the collective exhibition Now! at Haegeumgang museum in South Korea. And became part of the museum’s permanent collection.
In December, Patricia and other 39 woman artists joined the NGO Milhas Por Elas at the benefit project Arte Substantivo Feminino, donating artworks' sales profits to the institution. At the same time the artist took part at EAV-mostra 2021 annual group show.
Patricia Borges artworks have been featured in the book Photography in The Visual Culture, in December 2021.
2022
From January until March 2022 Patricia Borges' triptychs Akhenaton were displayed at MAUC museum in Fortaleza, at the collective exhibition Imersão no Gênero Feminino, along with other female artists. In March her video Revertere Ad Locum Tuum was screened at Colégio das Artes, at the University of Coimbra, Portugal; as part of “O Tempo Nao Para” collective exhibition.
In May, Patricia Borges’ artist book Para Cada Dia Que Senti Sua Falta has been archived at the IMS (Instituto Moreira Salles) library in São Paulo.
In June Patricia Borges photographic works were displayed at two collective exhibitions in Italy: A/Symmetrical – Rome (curated by P21 gallery Budapest) and at PhotoMilano THROUGH YOUR LENS Group Show at Spazio Tadini in Milan (curated by Monteoliveto gallery). At the same time, the artist took part in Combat Prize competition and was selected for Urban Awards at Triste Photo Days.
In August Patricia Borges exhibited her photographic series Akhenaton at FestFoto 2022, held at Fundação Ibere Camargo in Porto Alegre (talk). From August to September the artist was part of the collective exhibition Nearly White in NYC, with Artists Living Room gallery.
In September she took part at the group show Yearbook 2022 with Shutterhub, UK. And her work Akhenaton was shortlisted for IPE 164 at The Royal Photographic Society, UK.
In October she was part of the group show Gavetas, Cofres at Centro Cultural dos Correios - RJ. Patricia was shortlisted as best video artist at FESTCC in Nazaré, Portugal; with the moving work Inside.
In November Patricia Borges received an honorable mention at the Budapest International Photo Award BIFA. And took part at FotoRio with the group show Vento Vai, Vento Vem at Casa da Escada Colorida in Rio.
In December Patricia was part of Solar Foto Festival in Fortaleza, Brazil. And from December to March 2023 she presents a site-specific work at Parque das Ruinas in Rio de Janeiro at the feminist group show Matria.
2023
In February the artist was invited for Foundwork platform.
In March she participated in the ZUM/IMS photobook exhibition at Vila Foto em Pauta, an integral part of the Tiradentes Photography Festival. In the same month, Patricia Borges wrote the critical text for the artist Marina Ribas' solo exhibition at the Z42 art gallery in Rio de Janeiro. (extract here)
During the month of May she developed a Daily Cyanotype project at Tristinika residency in Greece.
In April Patricia Borges’ texts were selected for the collective publication Antologia Feminina, launched by Off-Flip label in November at the International Literary Festival in Paraty - RJ.
In September she showed her digital artworks at Blockchain Rio conference. And her photography series Transcartesian won in California the 2023 Analog Sparks award in Fine Arts / Experimental category.
In October she exhibited at Trieste Photo Days with the collective show Mythography held at Civic Museum Sartorio, in Italy. (catalogue)
At the same month Patricia Borges engaged as digital arts curator for the ETH Milan conference held in Palazzo Delle Stelline, Italy on October.
In November Patricia was part of the group show Corações à Desmedida hosted by Solar dos Abacaxis (Rio de Janeiro). An exhibition in honor to the artist Rochelle Costi.
From December to March 2024 two of her AI photography series will be displayed at Z42 Gallery in Rio de Janeiro, at the collective exhibition Carne Viva.
2023 resident artist at Museu XYZ, Patricia Borges created the metaverse project Entre.
2024
From January to March Patricia Borges spent 3 months in Singapore as part of Instinc:D Art Residency program, where she researched Tropical Arts and Technology. In March she began her master's degree in Art and Design at PUC University, Rio de Janeiro.
From March to April she took part in the exhibition Corações à Desmedida, at Casa do Povo in São Paulo.
From March to September, the artist participated in the Festival Foto BSB, in Brasília. With a photo essay carried out in the Brazilian Amazon, under the theme To Inhabit the Climate Emergency.
From July to August, she participated in the exhibition Kina - New Sounds, New Visions, curated by Gabriela Maciel at Casa Museu Eva Klabin in Rio de Janeiro.
In September, she participated in the Oceanic Art exhibition at Memorial da América Latina in São Paulo. In Rua exhibition curated by Joaquim Paiva at the Paraty em Foco photography festival, in Paraty. And ArtRio fair with Casa Voa, donating an artwork for the XIII Leilão Move Rio, curated by Manuela Parrino and Vanda Klabin.
From July to December 2024, Patricia Borges presents her photographic works created together with AI, under the theme Are You Free? at the Cerveira International Art Biennial, in Portugal.
From October 2024 to October 2025, her works will be on display at the exhibition (Return) To The Sea at the Seafront Gallery in Worthing, England.
In November 2024 Patricia’s photographic works will be published at Food Stories book in the UK.
2025
From January to March, Patricia Borges' works were presented at the group show Interior Infinito at the Castra Leuca gallery in Castelo Branco, Portugal.
In March, the artist participated in the exhibition Art Is at CICA Museum in South Korea.
From July to August, along with the artist Shih Yun Yeo, she exhibited Serendipity at Galeria Castra Leuca in Portugal.
In July Patricia Borges attended the CEAC Residency in Xiamen, China.
In August Patricia Borges attended the CICA museum Residency in Seoul. And published the article Lyotard and Futurism: Aesthetic Parallels between Futurist Art and AI-Generated Imagery, at the International Journal of Advanced Research (IJAR).
In September the artist published the article Atenção em Suspenso: A Estranheza como Estratégia Estética na Arte Contemporânea, at Delos (UFPR) research journal.
In October she presented the article Utopias futuras: paralelos estéticos entre a arte Futurista e criações imagéticas geradas por inteligência artificial (IA), at Plural Design Congress na Universidade Univille - Joinville/SC.
In November she presented the article Aesthetic Parallels between Futurist Art and AI-Generated Imagery, at the 13a International Conference Senses & Sensibility'25, at Rio Grande do Sul Federal University (UFRGS) - Porto Alegre/RS.
In December Patricia Borges concluded her Masters degree at the Arts and Design department of PUC-Rio University, with the dissertation The poetics of Tropical Technology: climatic influences on the materiality of Art.
2026
In January and February she took part in the program Mentoria Oriente - Poéticas de Resistência, at Ateliê Oriente, Rio de Janeiro. Under the guidance of Angela Berlinde and Paulo Marcos, Patricia Borges produced the video SYSTEM ERROR_ - exhibited in March at Aliança Francesa gallery in Rio de Janeiro and projected at Instituto Rouanet in Minas Gerais, during the Photography Festival Foto em Pauta in Tiradentes.
From February 7 to March 3, the artist’s photographic works were part of the collective exhibition Upside down at PH21 Gallery in Barcelona.
In May she presents the video Technopoetics in a digital billboard at Times Square, NYC, during Frieze NY, with Art Innovation Gallery.
From August 20 to October 11th Patricia Borges will have her digital video Tecnopoetics projected in the facade of Fiesp building - Avenida Paulista, as part of FILE Festival 2026 (International Festival for Electronic Language) that takes place in São Paulo. (every day from 7PM to 6AM)
From September 4 to 26, she is part of the group show NAFAS, with the collective The Invisible Dog, at BUoY Arts Center, in Tokyo.
Patricia Borges is currently a PhD researcher in the Arts and Design department at PUC-RJ, having as supervisors Claudio Magalhaes (Italy) and Cadu (RJ).
From 2015 to 2025 the artist studied at EAV - Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage / RJ - envisioning an interdisciplinary art practice that comprises photography and storytelling in expanding manners. Among others, her professors at EAV school include: Analu Cunha, Anna Bella Geiger, Charles Watson, Denise Cathilina, Bernardo Magina, Mariana Manhães, Martin Ogolter, Sonia Salcedo del Castillo, Fernando Cocchiarale and Iole de Freitas.

Artista contemporanea dal 2013, Patricia Borges è nata in Brasile nel 1974. Nel 1990 ha iniziato a frequentare corsi di disegno e pittura con il maestro Luiz Carlos Andrade Lima.
Nel 1995 si è trasferita a Vienna, in Austria, dove ha studiato per la prima volta fotografia analogica e pittura classica. Tornata in Brasile, ha frequentato corsi di storia e teoria dell’arte con i professori Fernando Carneiro e Maria Cecilia Araujo de Noronha.

Dal 2002 al 2004 ha svolto studi post-laurea in Arti Applicate / Fotografia presso l’ACP – Australian Centre for Photography di Sydney.
Durante il periodo trascorso in Australia e, successivamente, dopo il rientro in Brasile, ha lavorato come fotografa documentando spettacoli teatrali e progetti di architettura per portfolio professionali, riviste, libri e siti web. 2013

2018
Nel febbraio 2018 l’opera Liquid World ha partecipato al Salon des Artistes Français al Grand Palais di Parigi.
Nell’aprile 2018 il progetto fotografico Bodyscapes è stato pubblicato dalla rivista canadese Adore Noir. Nello stesso periodo è stato pubblicato a Rio de Janeiro il libro Cultura Brasileira Hoje, contenente alcune sue fotografie di spettacoli teatrali, e l’artista ha collaborato al progetto Cem Peitos per la piattaforma online Hysteria.
Nel maggio 2018 i suoi foto-oggetti Wagashi e Private sono stati esposti e venduti integralmente alla Tokyo International Art Fair, in Giappone.
Nel giugno 2018 Patricia Borges ha ricevuto una Menzione d’Onore nella categoria Fine Arts al Prix de la Photographie Paris – PX3 per la serie Private.
Nell’agosto 2018 ha partecipato alla mostra collettiva Tangente presso la EAV – Parque Lage.
Il video Ballet 11 è stato selezionato per il Venice Experimental Video Art Festival 2018 presso Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi, in concomitanza con la Biennale Cinema di Venezia. Successivamente, Ballet 11 è entrato a far parte della mostra collettiva Spaces presso The Room Gallery, sempre a Venezia.
Nell’ottobre 2018 le opere Gigante e Skin #2 sono state presentate alla Clio Art Fair di New York e vendute integralmente.
2019
Da gennaio a marzo 2019 Patricia Borges ha esposto i propri foto-oggetti al MuMA – Museu Municipal de Arte de Curitiba, dopo essere stata selezionata dal Circuito de Arte Contemporânea de Curitiba.
Finalista del 13º Arte Laguna Prize 2018–2019 a Venezia, nella categoria Fotografia, le sue opere sono entrate a far parte della collezione Arte Laguna World.
Nell’aprile 2019 l’opera ZEN è stata selezionata dalla Circle Foundation for the Arts, in Francia, per essere pubblicata sulla rivista Spotlight.
Nel maggio 2019 Patricia Borges ha ricevuto una Menzione d’Onore nella categoria Street Photography agli IPA – International Photography Awards di Los Angeles per la serie Penance & Privilege. Nell’agosto dello stesso anno, la serie ha ottenuto un’altra Menzione d’Onore nel concorso britannico Life Framer, numero 56/2019, Civilization, giudicato dal fotografo Stefano De Luigi. Il progetto è stato inoltre selezionato dallo statunitense Social Documentary Network.
Nell’agosto 2019 il saggio fotografico Dead Sea è stato pubblicato sulla rivista F-Stop, numero 96, dedicato al tema Consumption.
Nel settembre 2019 il saggio fotografico To Ed Ruscha With Love ha ricevuto una Menzione d’Onore ai Minimalist Photography Awards ed è stato esposto alla Silk Road Gallery di Teheran.
Tra agosto e settembre 2019 l’opera Skin #2 ha partecipato alla mostra fotografica CorpoRealities, curata da Zsolt Batori presso PH21 Gallery a Budapest.
Successivamente, la serie Penance & Privilege ha partecipato al tour espositivo del Life Framer V Photography Prize 2019, con tappe a Londra e Milano.
Nell’ottobre 2019 il saggio fotografico Modernist Architecture From the 60’s è stato pubblicato sulla rivista u+i, con fotografie in bianco e nero di monumenti architettonici di Brasília e Sydney.
Nel novembre 2019 la serie fotografica di grande formato Guanabara è stata presentata alla Galerie Étienne de Causans di Parigi, in concomitanza con Photo Saint Germain e Paris Photo, e successivamente alla Luxembourg Art Fair.
Nel dicembre 2019 Patricia Borges ha partecipato al Photo Israel Photography Festival di Tel Aviv con il video Ballet 11. Il suo libro Needles è stato inoltre presentato a Volumes 2019 presso la Kunsthalle di Zurigo.
Da dicembre 2019 a gennaio 2020 il video Inside è stato proiettato alla Royal Scottish Academy di Edimburgo nell’ambito delle proiezioni CutLog Moving Image, collaborazione tra The Society of Scottish Artists e Visual Arts Scotland.
Nel dicembre 2019 le sue opere sono state pubblicate sulla rivista Aesthetica, numero 92, e nel gennaio 2020 su ArtReveal, numero 51.
Il lavoro fotografico in bianco e nero Terra Brasilis è stato selezionato nella prima fase dell’HIPA Photography Award 2019 – tema Water – a Dubai, Emirati Arabi Uniti, nella categoria portfolio.
2020
Nel gennaio 2020 la serie premiata Private è stata esposta nella Foremost Exhibition a Okinawa, in Giappone, insieme alle opere di altri fotografi premiati al PX3 – Prix de la Photographie Paris nel 2018 e nel 2019.
Patricia Borges è stata invitata a partecipare al volume Collector Book – New Perspectives, pubblicato nel marzo 2020 da Contemporary Art Collectors, Regno Unito.
Nel marzo 2020 l’artista ha ricevuto una Menzione d’Onore nella categoria Fotografia alla London International Creative Competition 2019 per il progetto di libro fotografico Liquid World: Memoirs of a Goldfish.
Tra marzo e aprile i suoi lavori fotografici sono stati esposti nel progetto Postcards From Great Britain, inaugurato ad Haarlem, nei Paesi Bassi, e successivamente presentato a Newcastle, Amsterdam, Gand, Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie e Tilburg. Il progetto è stato inoltre archiviato presso la Cambridge University Library, il Victoria and Albert Museum, DECK Library Singapore e Lightbox Photobook Library Taiwan.
Nell’aprile 2020 Patricia Borges avrebbe dovuto presentare i propri lavori fotografici ad ARTEXPO NY 2020 con il New York Center for Photographic Art; la partecipazione è stata rinviata prima all’aprile e poi all’ottobre 2021. Le sue opere sono state successivamente inserite nella piattaforma Artland.
Nel maggio 2020 la nuova serie di cianotipie Solares è stata pubblicata nel numero 18 di CreativPaper Magazine, insieme a un’intervista all’artista. I suoi oggetti e le sue installazioni sono stati inoltre pubblicati su Contemporary Art Curator e Create! Magazine.
Nel giugno 2020 Patricia Borges avrebbe dovuto partecipare a PhotoMilano con Galleria Tadini, evento successivamente rinviato. Il progetto fotografico Sutures è stato proiettato insieme alle opere di altri artisti selezionati alla Censored Exhibition del Copenhagen Photo Festival.
Tra settembre e ottobre ha frequentato il seminario The Production of the Self: Conversations about Marisa Merz presso il Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Patricia Borges ha ricevuto riconoscimenti ai Moscow Foto Awards 2020 nelle categorie video e photobook. Selezionata anche agli Urban Photo Awards nella categoria portfolio, le sue opere sono state presentate al Trieste Photo Days 2020 Festival.
Da ottobre a dicembre ha frequentato il corso From Stone to Pixel: Images’ History con Andreas Valentin presso Atelier Oriente. La serie Disappearing Act è stata inoltre inserita nell’archivio di LensCulture.
Nel novembre 2020 i suoi lavori fotografici hanno partecipato al Festival de Fotografia de Tiradentes con due progetti: la mostra Corp_Urbano e il video-progetto Por Dentro de um Tempo Suspenso – Recolhimento.
Nel dicembre 2020 le opere I Don’t Believe in Witches e But There Are sono state presentate alla mostra annuale della EAV e alla collettiva Women Suffragists presso la San Diego Public Library, California. La serie fotografica Suturas è stata inoltre pubblicata sulla rivista tunisina Grimoire Webzine.
2021
Finalista del progetto COCA 2021 a Roma e candidata al FIABCN Art Award 2021 di Barcellona, Patricia Borges ha visto i propri lavori pubblicati sulla rivista berlinese Food&Gravity nel febbraio 2021 ed è stata inclusa nel libro 5 Artists Interviews di Kim Engelen.
Nel marzo 2021 il video Deep Saffron, realizzato per il progetto Mixing Colours di Roger e Brian Eno in collaborazione con Deutsche Grammophon, è stato presentato nella mostra all’aperto A Quiet Scene presso il Los Angeles Music Center.
Nell’aprile 2021 l’artista ha tenuto una mostra personale online presso Albe Art, Abu Dhabi. Nel maggio successivo ha contribuito alla pubblicazione berlinese Kunstretreat 2021.
Nel giugno 2021 Patricia Borges ha completato la Specializzazione in Studi di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea presso il MoMA di New York, iniziata nel gennaio dello stesso anno.
Nel luglio 2021, dopo aver frequentato il workshop sui diari con Joaquim Paiva presso Atelier Oriente, ha completato For Each Day I Felt Your Absence, un libro d’artista contenente poesie e fotografie. Nello stesso periodo ha pubblicato il volume collettivo Meetings and Reflections with Iole de Freitas, che documenta conversazioni sull’arte avvenute durante i mesi di confinamento del 2020.
Nell’agosto 2021 Patricia Borges è stata ammessa al programma MFA – Master in Fine Arts presso LASALLE College of the Arts / Nanyang University di Singapore per il 2022, successivamente rinviato al 2023.
Nel settembre 2021 ha partecipato alla mostra collettiva online Paralela EIXO durante ArtRio e ha presentato i propri lavori fotografici alla 6th Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography di Barcellona, ricevendo quattro Menzioni d’Onore al 16th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.
Nell’ottobre 2021 Patricia Borges ha esposto i propri lavori fotografici ad ARTEXPO 2021, Pier 36, New York, ed è stata pubblicata nel libro Poetry da Shutterhub.
Da ottobre a dicembre ha partecipato alla mostra annuale della Society of Scottish Artists con il video Revertere Ad Locum Tuum presso la Royal Scottish Academy di Edimburgo. Nello stesso periodo ha presentato l’installazione Because I’ve Lived Many Lives Before presso lo spazio Oasis a Rio de Janeiro con Galeria Paralela.
Tra novembre e dicembre 2021 la serie Akhenaton è stata presentata nella collettiva Now! presso l’Haegeumgang Museum in Corea del Sud ed è entrata a far parte della collezione permanente del museo.
Nel dicembre 2021 Patricia e altre 39 artiste hanno partecipato con la ONG Milhas Por Elas al progetto benefico Arte Substantivo Feminino, destinando all’organizzazione i proventi delle vendite delle opere. Nello stesso periodo ha preso parte anche alla mostra annuale EAV-Mostra 2021.
Le opere di Patricia Borges sono state inoltre pubblicate nel volume Photography in The Visual Culture nel dicembre 2021.
2022
Da gennaio a marzo 2022 i trittici Akhenaton sono stati presentati al MAUC – Museu de Arte da Universidade Federal do Ceará, a Fortaleza, nella mostra collettiva Imersão no Gênero Feminino. L’opera è successivamente entrata a far parte della collezione permanente del museo.
Nel marzo 2022 il video Revertere Ad Locum Tuum è stato proiettato al Colégio das Artes dell’Università di Coimbra, in Portogallo, nell’ambito della mostra collettiva O Tempo Não Para.
Nel maggio 2022 il libro d’artista Para Cada Dia Que Senti Sua Falta è stato acquisito dalla biblioteca dell’IMS – Instituto Moreira Salles di São Paulo.
Nel giugno 2022 i lavori fotografici di Patricia Borges sono stati presentati in due mostre collettive in Italia: A/Symmetrical – Rome, curata da PH21 Gallery Budapest, e THROUGH YOUR LENS a PhotoMilano presso Spazio Tadini, curata da Monteoliveto Gallery. Nello stesso periodo l’artista ha partecipato al Combat Prize ed è stata selezionata agli Urban Photo Awards del Trieste Photo Days.
Nell’agosto 2022 Patricia Borges ha presentato la serie fotografica Akhenaton a FestFoto 2022 presso la Fundação Iberê Camargo di Porto Alegre. Tra agosto e settembre ha inoltre partecipato alla mostra collettiva Nearly White a New York con Artists Living Room Gallery.
Nel settembre 2022 ha partecipato alla collettiva Yearbook 2022 di Shutterhub, Regno Unito, mentre Akhenaton è stata inclusa nella shortlist dell’IPE 164 della Royal Photographic Society.
Nell’ottobre 2022 ha partecipato alla mostra Gavetas, Cofres e Armários presso il Centro Cultural dos Correios di Rio de Janeiro. Patricia è stata inoltre selezionata nella shortlist come migliore videoartista al FESTCC di Nazaré, Portogallo, con l’opera Inside.
Nel novembre 2022 Patricia Borges ha ricevuto una Menzione d’Onore al Budapest International Foto Awards – BIFA e ha partecipato a FotoRio con la mostra collettiva Vento Vai, Vento Vem presso Casa da Escada Colorida, Rio de Janeiro.
Nel dicembre 2022 ha partecipato al festival Solar Foto di Fortaleza. Da dicembre a marzo 2023 ha presentato inoltre un’opera site-specific al Parque das Ruínas di Rio de Janeiro nella mostra collettiva femminista Matria.
2023
Nel febbraio 2023 l’artista è stata invitata a entrare nella piattaforma Foundwork.
Nel marzo ha partecipato alla mostra di fotolibri ZUM/IMS presso Vila Foto em Pauta, parte integrante del Festival de Fotografia de Tiradentes. Nello stesso mese Patricia Borges ha scritto il testo critico per la mostra personale dell’artista Marina Ribas presso la galleria Z42 di Rio de Janeiro.
Durante il mese di maggio ha sviluppato un progetto di cianotipia quotidiana presso la residenza artistica Tristinika, in Grecia.
Nell’aprile 2023 alcuni testi di Patricia Borges sono stati selezionati per la pubblicazione collettiva Antologia Feminina, edita da Off-Flip e presentata nel novembre successivo durante la Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty – FLIP.
Nel settembre 2023 ha presentato le proprie opere digitali alla conferenza Blockchain Rio. La serie fotografica Transcartesian ha inoltre vinto in California l’Analog Sparks Award 2023 nella categoria Fine Arts / Experimental.
Nell’ottobre ha esposto al Trieste Photo Days con la collettiva Mythography presso il Museo Civico Sartorio, in Italia.
Nello stesso mese Patricia Borges ha svolto il ruolo di curatrice di arte digitale per la conferenza ETH Milan, tenutasi presso Palazzo delle Stelline a Milano.
Nel novembre ha partecipato alla mostra collettiva Corações à Desmedida presso Solar dos Abacaxis, a Rio de Janeiro, realizzata in omaggio all’artista Rochelle Costi.
Da dicembre 2023 a marzo 2024 due delle sue serie fotografiche realizzate con l’intelligenza artificiale sono state presentate nella mostra collettiva Carne Viva presso la Z42 Gallery di Rio de Janeiro.
Artista residente nel 2023 presso Museu XYZ, Patricia Borges ha inoltre creato il progetto nel metaverso Entre.
2024
Da gennaio a marzo 2024 Patricia Borges ha trascorso tre mesi a Singapore nell’ambito del programma Instinc:D Art Residency, dove ha condotto una ricerca sull’arte tropicale e la tecnologia. Il percorso di residenza si è concluso con la mostra personale Tropical Papers presso Instinc Gallery, Singapore.
Nel marzo 2024 ha iniziato il Master in Arte e Design presso la PUC University di Rio de Janeiro.
Tra marzo e aprile ha partecipato alla mostra Corações à Desmedida presso Casa do Povo a São Paulo.
Da marzo a settembre ha preso parte al Festival Foto BSB di Brasília con un saggio fotografico realizzato nell’Amazzonia brasiliana sul tema To Inhabit the Climate Emergency.
Da luglio ad agosto ha partecipato alla mostra Kina – New Sounds, New Visions, curata da Gabriela Maciel presso Casa Museu Eva Klabin a Rio de Janeiro.
Nel settembre 2024 ha partecipato alla mostra Oceanic Art presso il Memorial da América Latina di São Paulo; alla mostra Rua, curata da Joaquim Paiva nell’ambito del festival Paraty em Foco; e alla fiera ArtRio con Casa Voa, donando un’opera al XIII Leilão Move Rio, curato da Manuela Parrino e Vanda Klabin.
Da luglio a dicembre 2024 Patricia Borges ha presentato opere fotografiche realizzate con l’intelligenza artificiale sul tema Are You Free? alla Biennale Internazionale d’Arte di Cerveira, in Portogallo.
Da ottobre 2024 a ottobre 2025 le sue opere sono state esposte nella mostra (Return) To The Sea presso la Seafront Gallery di Worthing, Inghilterra.
Nel novembre 2024 i suoi lavori fotografici sono stati pubblicati nel libro Food Stories nel Regno Unito.
2025
Da gennaio a marzo 2025 le opere di Patricia Borges sono state presentate nella mostra collettiva Interior Infinito presso la galleria Castra Leuca a Castelo Branco, Portogallo.
Nel marzo 2025 l’artista ha partecipato alla mostra Art Is presso il CICA Museum in Corea del Sud.
Da luglio ad agosto, insieme all’artista Shih Yun Yeo, ha presentato la mostra Serendipity presso Galeria Castra Leuca, in Portogallo.
Nel luglio 2025 Patricia Borges ha partecipato alla residenza artistica CEAC a Xiamen, Cina.
Nell’agosto 2025 ha partecipato alla residenza del CICA Museum a Seoul e ha pubblicato l’articolo Lyotard and Futurism: Aesthetic Parallels between Futurist Art and AI-Generated Imagery sull’International Journal of Advanced Research – IJAR.
Nel settembre ha pubblicato l’articolo Atenção em Suspenso: A Estranheza como Estratégia Estética na Arte Contemporânea sulla rivista accademica Delos – UFPR.
Nell’ottobre ha presentato l’articolo Utopias futuras: paralelos estéticos entre a arte Futurista e criações imagéticas geradas por inteligência artificial (IA) al congresso Plural Design presso l’Università Univille, Joinville, Santa Catarina.
Nel novembre ha presentato l’articolo Aesthetic Parallels between Futurist Art and AI-Generated Imagery alla 13ª International Conference Senses & Sensibility ’25 presso l’Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul – UFRGS, Porto Alegre.
Nel dicembre 2025 Patricia Borges ha concluso il Master presso il Dipartimento di Arti e Design della PUC-Rio con la tesi The Poetics of Tropical Technology: Climatic Influences on the Materiality of Art.
2026
Nei mesi di gennaio e febbraio 2026 ha partecipato al programma Mentoria Oriente – Poéticas de Resistência presso Ateliê Oriente, Rio de Janeiro. Sotto la guida di Angela Berlinde e Paulo Marcos, Patricia Borges ha realizzato il video SYSTEM ERROR_, esposto nel marzo successivo presso la galleria dell’Aliança Francesa di Rio de Janeiro e proiettato all’Instituto Rouanet, nel Minas Gerais, durante il Festival Foto em Pauta di Tiradentes.
Dal 7 febbraio al 3 marzo le opere fotografiche dell’artista hanno partecipato alla mostra collettiva Upside Down presso PH21 Gallery a Barcellona.
Nel maggio 2026 ha presentato il video Technopoetics su un billboard digitale a Times Square, New York, durante Frieze NY, con Art Innovation Gallery.
Dal 20 agosto all’11 ottobre 2026 il video digitale Tecnopoetics sarà proiettato sulla facciata dell’edificio FIESP, in Avenida Paulista, nell’ambito del FILE Festival 2026 – International Festival for Electronic Language – a São Paulo, ogni giorno dalle 19:00 alle 6:00.
Dal 4 al 26 settembre 2026 parteciperà alla mostra collettiva NAFAS, con il collettivo The Invisible Dog, presso BUoY Arts Center a Tokyo.
Patricia Borges è attualmente ricercatrice di dottorato presso il Dipartimento di Arti e Design della PUC-Rio, sotto la supervisione di Claudio Magalhães e Cadu.
Dal 2015 al 2025 l’artista ha studiato presso la EAV – Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage di Rio de Janeiro, sviluppando una pratica artistica interdisciplinare che comprende fotografia e narrazione in forme espanse. Tra i suoi docenti alla EAV figurano Analu Cunha, Anna Bella Geiger, Charles Watson, Denise Cathilina, Bernardo Magina, Mariana Manhães, Martin Ogolter, Sonia Salcedo del Castillo, Fernando Cocchiarale e Iole de Freitas.
